Puducherry, Mar 2: Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangasamy on Sunday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to fulfil the long-pending demand of granting Statehood to the Union Territory of Puducherry.
Speaking at a function where the Prime Minister launched infrastructure and development projects worth around Rs 2,700 crore, Mr Rangasamy pressed for the Centre’s approval to confer full Statehood on Puducherry. He said the Territorial Assembly had adopted resolutions on 13 occasions seeking Statehood and forwarded them to the Centre.
Stating that the request was yet to be considered, the Chief Minister appealed to Modi to take a favourable decision and grant Statehood status to the Union Territory in response to the aspirations of its people.
