Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in New Delhi on Monday, as both leaders discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation and strategic ties between India and Canada.
The meeting comes during the first official visit of PM Carney to India, aimed at resetting and expanding diplomatic and economic engagement between the two countries. Leaders from both nations held in-depth discussions on enhancing collaboration across key areas including trade, energy, critical minerals, agriculture, education and technology.
Modi welcomed Carney to India, noting that this was his first visit since assuming office, and described the meeting as a significant milestone in the India-Canada relationship. The two leaders reviewed steps to deepen partnership and explore new avenues of cooperation that benefit both countriesā economies and people.
Regarding the situation in West Asia, Modi expressed concern over the ongoing tensions and highlighted the importance of pursuing peace and stability through dialogue and diplomacy. He emphasised that India and Canada stand together in addressing regional challenges and supporting global security.
Discussions also touched upon expanding economic ties, including progress on prospective agreements such as a comprehensive economic partnership and long-term cooperation in sectors such as nuclear energy and clean technology, reflecting the broader goal of boosting trade and investment between the two nations.
