Music composer Harris Jayaraj said that once a story is firmly established, a film does not necessarily require star power to succeed, emphasising the importance of narrative over celebrity presence.
He made the remarks at the pre-release event of the upcoming film Kadhal Reset Repeat, where he spoke about his creative philosophy in cinema. Harris said that when a script is solid and emotionally engaging, it naturally elevates the work of everyone involved — from actors to technicians — making star casting a secondary factor in a film’s impact.
Recalling his early days, Harris pointed to the success of Minnale — a film he worked on as a newcomer alongside other fresh talents — to highlight how strong storytelling can drive a project. At the Kadhal Reset Repeat function, he stressed that audience connection comes from meaningful content and well-structured narratives, and that music and performances are most effective when they serve the story rather than overshadow it.
Kadhal Reset Repeat, featuring debutants Madumkesh and Jiya Shankar along with Arjun Ashokan, is scheduled to hit theatres on March 6, with Harris’s music woven deeply into the film’s creative process.
