Senior Congress leader Girish Chodankar has said that party members who have worked sincerely for the party will be given an opportunity to contest in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
Speaking about preparations for the polls, Chodankar, who is the Congress high command’s in-charge for Tamil Nadu, said the party is focusing on winning all the constituencies allotted to it in the alliance led by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).
According to the seat-sharing arrangement finalised within the DMK alliance, the Indian National Congress has been allotted 28 Assembly constituencies. The Congress leadership has begun steps to strengthen the party organisation in these seats and prepare for the election campaign.
Chodankar said candidates for the election would be chosen based on their commitment, loyalty and work for the party, adding that sincere workers would be given priority when the party decides on nominees.
Seat-sharing negotiations between the DMK and Congress had earlier seen some delays as the Congress had sought a higher number of constituencies, but the issue was resolved after discussions between leaders of both parties.
In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly election, the Congress contested 25 seats as part of the DMK-led alliance and won 18 constituencies, contributing to the alliance’s victory in the State.
