Ongoing renovation work at the Tiruvanmiyur Bus Terminus in Chennai has led to heavy traffic congestion and confusion among passengers in the area.
Due to the renovation, buses operated by the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) are currently stopping along nearby roads instead of inside the bus terminus. The temporary arrangement has resulted in traffic bottlenecks, especially during peak hours, as buses halt along the roadside to pick up and drop passengers.
Daily commuters say the situation has made it difficult to identify the correct boarding points for buses. Many passengers have complained about the lack of clear signboards and information regarding the temporary bus stops.
āUsually we know exactly where to board our bus inside the terminus, but now buses are stopping at different points on the road. It has become confusing, especially during rush hours,ā said a commuter waiting near the terminus.
The roadside halts have also slowed down vehicle movement in the busy Tiruvanmiyur junction area, adding to traffic congestion.
Officials said the temporary arrangements were made to facilitate renovation work being carried out inside the bus terminus. The project aims to improve passenger facilities and streamline bus movement once the work is completed.
Authorities said that after the renovation is finished, the upgraded Tiruvanmiyur Bus Terminus is expected to provide better infrastructure and improved traffic management for commuters in the area.
