The Metropolitan Transport Corporation (Chennai) has introduced a new premium AC luxury bus service called Golden Chariot in Chennai to provide a more comfortable travel experience for commuters.
The modern buses are equipped with facilities such as CCTV cameras, luxury seating, USB charging ports, free Wi-Fi, emergency alert buttons and digital route display boards. The service is also designed to be accessible for differently-abled passengers, including a reservation facility for wheelchair users.
In the first phase, the buses will operate on two routes — Koyambedu to Siruseri IT Park and Thiruvanmiyur to Tambaram — passing through the busy Old Mahabalipuram Road IT corridor. Ticket fares range from ₹50 to ₹150 and can be booked through the Chennai One mobile app, as the buses operate without conductors.
Officials said the service is currently being run on a trial basis and may be expanded to more routes across the city depending on passenger response.
