The Union Government has announced plans to develop a new national highway corridor that will reduce the travel distance between Chennai and New Delhi by nearly 320 kilometres.
Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said the proposed corridor will improve connectivity between northern and southern India and significantly cut travel time for passenger and freight transport.
According to officials, the new route will begin near Surat and extend towards Kurnool, forming a key north–south highway link connecting major cities. The project is expected to strengthen logistics, ease congestion on existing routes and improve interstate trade connectivity.
