A major 10-lane highway project connecting Mahabalipuram and Ennore is currently being developed to ease traffic congestion in Chennai and improve connectivity across the city.
The proposed corridor is expected to significantly enhance transportation between the southern and northern parts of the city, reducing travel time for commuters and facilitating smoother movement of goods. The project is particularly aimed at supporting industrial transportation and improving access to the port areas in North Chennai.
Officials said the new highway will play a crucial role in strengthening Chennai’s road infrastructure by providing a faster and more efficient route for vehicles travelling between key industrial hubs and residential zones. Once completed, it is expected to ease the pressure on existing arterial roads that currently face heavy traffic during peak hours.
The project is progressing rapidly and is part of broader efforts to modernise the city’s transport network. Authorities believe the highway will not only reduce congestion but also boost economic activity by improving logistics and connectivity to the Ennore port and nearby industrial regions.
