Toll charges at 66 toll plazas across Tamil Nadu will be increased from April 1, according to the National Highways Authority of India as part of the annual toll fee revision on national highways across the country.
Tamil Nadu has around 77 toll plazas, and the revised tariff will apply to the majority of them. Officials said the increase is expected to range between 5% and 7%, depending on the type of vehicle and the specific toll plaza.
For cars, jeeps and vans, the toll fee is likely to increase by about ₹10 to ₹40, while buses, trucks and other heavy vehicles may see a hike ranging from ₹50 to ₹200.
Officials noted that the toll rate revision is carried out annually based on factors such as inflation, road maintenance costs and highway development expenses.
Most toll plazas in the State operate using the FASTag system, which enables seamless and cashless toll payments for motorists travelling on national highways.
With the revised toll charges coming into effect from April 1, commuters travelling on major national highways across Tamil Nadu are expected to experience a slight rise in travel costs.
