Washington,  Mar 16; The United States may soon announce a multinational naval coalition to escort commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz, amid rising tensions in the Middle East.
Reports said the move comes as the ongoing conflict involving Iran and Israel threatens maritime traffic in the vital oil shipping route through which nearly 20 per cent of the world’s crude oil passes.
US President Donald Trump has urged several countries, including United Kingdom, France, Japan, South Korea and China, to join the effort to safeguard merchant vessels.
The coalition is expected to deploy warships to escort oil tankers and cargo vessels to ensure safe passage through the strategic waterway.
