Chennai, Mar 19:
Even as summer begins to intensify, several parts of Tamil Nadu have been witnessing unexpected rainfall. Cities including Chennai experienced light to moderate showers accompanied by thunder and lightning, bringing much-needed relief from rising temperatures.
According to the India Meteorological Department, this weather pattern is due to a cyclonic circulation prevailing over the region, extending from the Gulf of Mannar to interior parts of South India. As a result, conditions have become favorable for rainfall across multiple districts in the state.
In Chennai and its suburbs, the sky remained cloudy, with scattered spells of rain reported in several localities. This led to a noticeable dip in temperature, with maximum temperatures hovering around 33°C and minimum temperatures around 24–25°C.
