Chennai, Mar 28:
The Tamil Nadu government has declared April 23, 2026, the day of the Assembly elections, as a public holiday across the state to facilitate smooth voting
The order ensures that employees in government offices, private establishments, industries, and commercial institutions are granted a paid holiday, enabling them to exercise their franchise without any hindrance.
The holiday applies to all sectors, including daily wage workers, with strict instructions that no salary deduction should be made for the day. Authorities have also warned of action against establishments that fail to comply with the directive.
Polling for all 234 constituencies in Tamil Nadu will be held in a single phase on April 23, with officials urging voters to make full use of the holiday and participate actively in the democratic process.
