Chennai, Mar 28:
The Greater Chennai Corporation has refuted claims that it carried out sudden works in Perambur’s Mullai Nagar area that led to the denial of permission for a political gathering by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
In an official statement on its X (formerly Twitter) account, the corporation clarified that no new works or sudden civic projects were undertaken by it at the site. The minor activity that did take place was a quick repair by the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board to fix an unexpected drinking water pipeline break, and it was confined to a very small area and completed promptly.
The corporation stressed that linking these repair works to the denial of event permission is incorrect. It also stated that the official order denying permission for the gathering clearly lists the actual reasons, and that the allegation that the corporation created an environment to block TVK’s meeting is misleading.
This clarification came after TVK leader Vijay publicly alleged that permission for a campaign event was denied because the corporation had allegedly dug trenches and put up barricades, which they claimed was aimed at hindering their political activity.
