Chennai, Apr 3:
The long-awaited skywalk connecting the Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus with the Kilambakkam Railway Halt is set to open in May, offering much-needed relief to daily commuters.
Officials said the project has reached its final stage, with key works such as flooring, roofing, installation of lifts, escalators, and railings nearing completion. The only major component pending is the installation of the span across GST Road.
This final work will be taken up after the April 23 polling, as it requires significant traffic diversion along the busy stretch.
Authorities noted that earlier technical and execution-related issues have been resolved, and the ₹79-crore project is expected to be completed within two to three weeks after the final installation.
Once operational, the skywalk is expected to significantly ease passenger movement, providing a safer and more convenient link between the bus terminus and the railway station, particularly for those navigating heavy traffic along GST Road.
