Chennai, Apr 3:
Suburban train services in Chennai are set to return to normal operations from April 5, bringing much-needed relief to thousands of daily commuters affected by recent disruptions.
The inconvenience was caused by ongoing redevelopment works at Chennai Egmore Railway Station, where major infrastructure upgrades have been under way for the past several weeks.
During this period, suburban services were partially altered, with trains operating from alternate platforms and schedules undergoing frequent changes. The adjustments led to delays, overcrowding during peak hours, and reduced frequency on certain routes, causing significant hardship to passengers.
The impact was particularly felt across the busy suburban corridors connecting Chennai Beach Railway Station, Tambaram Railway Station, and Chengalpattu Railway Station, which cater to a large volume of daily commuters.
Railway authorities have now confirmed that with major portions of the work nearing completion, all suburban train services will resume their regular schedules from April 5. This will include restoration of normal train frequency, return to standard platform operations, and improved punctuality.
Officials said the resumption is expected to ease passenger flow and significantly improve the commuting experience across the suburban rail network.
