Chennai, April 4:

DMDK treasurer Premalatha Vijayakant launched a sharp attack on the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, claiming that the party may fail to even emerge as the Opposition after the 2026 Assembly elections.

Campaigning in the Alandur constituency for MSME Minister T. M. Anbarasan, Premalatha alleged that the AIADMK could become an “insignificant player” in Tamil Nadu politics following the polls. She also targeted party general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, questioning the party’s electoral prospects.

Expressing confidence in the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, she said the party would return to power with a “thumping majority,” citing recent survey predictions. Drawing comparisons between welfare promises, Premalatha remarked that while EPS had offered limited benefits, Chief Minister M. K. Stalin had provided broader choices to women through schemes such as the Illatharasi initiative.

She highlighted that under the scheme, women are given coupons worth ₹8,000, allowing them flexibility in purchasing essential items, and positioned it as a more empowering alternative to earlier promises.

Her remarks come amid intensifying election campaigning across Tamil Nadu, with leaders stepping up criticism of rival parties ahead of the crucial Assembly polls.
