Chennai, Apr 4:
In a major step towards improving urban mobility, the Chennai Corporation is set to undertake large-scale road widening works covering nearly 100 km across the city. The initiative is aimed at addressing long-standing traffic congestion and improving the overall commuting experience for residents.
The project will focus on key arterial roads, busy junctions, and high-traffic corridors that witness heavy vehicular movement on a daily basis. By expanding road capacity in these areas, officials aim to reduce bottlenecks and ensure smoother traffic flow, particularly during peak hours.
Nearly 100 km of roads have been identified for widening, with special emphasis on major roads and congested intersections. Authorities said the primary objective is to cut down travel time and ease traffic pressure in some of the city’s most crowded stretches.
Several prominent locations and critical junctions have been included under the plan after detailed assessments of traffic patterns. Officials believe that once the works are completed, there will be a noticeable improvement in traffic movement across key parts of the city.
The project forms part of broader efforts to upgrade infrastructure in line with Chennai’s growing population and rising number of vehicles. Civic authorities are hopeful that the initiative will make daily commuting smoother, faster, and more efficient for the public.
