The election process for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election has reached a crucial stage, with April 6 marked as the final day for candidates to file their nomination papers.
According to the schedule announced by the Election Commission of India, the nomination process began on March 30 and will officially close on April 6. After this deadline, scrutiny of nominations will take place on April 7, followed by the last date for withdrawal of candidature on April 9.
With the deadline approaching, political parties and independent candidates across Tamil Nadu have intensified their efforts to submit papers and finalise their contests. Several key leaders and newcomers have already filed their nominations, making the political atmosphere increasingly vibrant.
The State will go to polls in a single phase on April 23, with counting of votes scheduled for May 4. A total of 234 assembly constituencies will elect representatives in what is expected to be a high-stakes electoral battle. So far over 3000 have filed papers.
