Illicit Liquor  DMK’s big achievement: Anbumani

Chennai,  Apr 29:

Anbumani Ramadoss, president of the Pattali Makkal Katchi, on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government, alleging that the unchecked spread of illicit liquor across Tamil Nadu reflects a major administrative failure.

In a statement, Ramadoss criticised the government led by Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, claiming that its inaction over the past five years has led to a rise in illegal liquor sales, forcing local communities to intervene.

Referring to a recent incident in Podur village near Bennenagaram in Dharmapuri district, he said a group of women allegedly ransacked four illicit liquor outlets operating in the area. The main accused in the case, identified as Govindan, reportedly managed to escape during the incident.

While condemning such acts of vigilantism, Ramadoss said they highlight the growing frustration among villagers. “Taking the law into one’s own hands is not a solution, but the prevailing situation shows the extent of administrative failure,” he noted.

The PMK leader further alleged that the government has allowed an environment where illegal liquor trade continues unchecked, pushing residents to act out of desperation. He termed the situation as a serious governance lapse and called for immediate and stringent action to curb the menace.

The remarks come at a politically sensitive time, with the State having just concluded polling for the Assembly elections, and are likely to intensify the ongoing political debate over law and order in Tamil Nadu.
