Chennai, May 5:
With Tamil Nadu heading towards a hung Assembly, Vijay-led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) is actively exploring the possibility of forming a coalition government with the support of Congress, Left parties and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK).
TVK has emerged as the single largest party in the 2026 Assembly elections but is expected to fall short of the majority mark of 118 seats in the 234-member House, prompting urgent post-poll negotiations.
Sources indicate that informal discussions are underway to secure outside or alliance support from like-minded parties, with Congress and Left formations seen as potential partners in ensuring a stable government. VCK, which has been a key player in alliance politics, is also expected to play a crucial role in the evolving scenario.
Political observers note that a coalition arrangement could provide the numbers required for TVK to stake claim to form the government, especially after other major players signalled reluctance to extend support.
The situation has triggered intense political activity in Chennai, with backchannel talks and strategic consultations gaining momentum as parties weigh their options in a rapidly changing political landscape.
If successful, the move could mark a significant shift in Tamil Nadu politics, ushering in a coalition era led by Vijay and redefining governance in the State.
