Chennai, May 8:
The Tamil Nadu School Education Department has announced special summer training camps for government school students who have completed Class 11, aiming to encourage talent development and make productive use of the summer vacation period.
The camps are scheduled to begin on May 17 and will be conducted for five days at two locations â the Nilgiris and Yelagiri in Tirupathur district.
According to the Education Department, a total of 895 students have been selected for the programme based on their performance in academics, literature, science and extracurricular competitions.
Out of the selected students, 690 girl students will participate in the camp organised in the Nilgiris, while 205 boy students will attend the camp at Yelagiri.
Officials said the initiative is intended to improve studentsâ creativity, confidence, communication abilities and overall personality development through interactive and activity-based learning sessions.
The camps will include a wide range of activities such as physical fitness training, reading sessions involving newspapers and magazines, short film screenings, dance and stage performances, music and body language training, poetry and story writing workshops, and social skill development programmes.
Students will also get opportunities to interact with young officers and participate in basic astronomy sessions as part of the enrichment programme.
The School Education Department has instructed schools to obtain consent letters from parents before sending students to the camps. Students have also been advised to carry essential items including clothing, blankets and identity cards.
To ensure student safety and supervision, the department has directed that one female teacher accompany every group of 20 girl students during travel and throughout the camp duration.
Education officials believe the camps will help students develop leadership qualities, improve communication skills and gain exposure beyond classroom learning during the holiday period.
