Chennai, May 8:
Tamil Nadu has witnessed a strong response to engineering admissions for the current academic year, with more than 42,000 students registering for BE and BTech counselling within the first five days of the application process.
According to the Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE), a total of 42,156 students have applied for engineering admissions under the government quota since the online registration process began on May 3.
The admissions process covers government engineering colleges, government-aided engineering colleges, government engineering universities and self-financing engineering institutions across Tamil Nadu.
Officials said the highest number of applications was recorded on May 4, when 11,345 students registered in a single day, reflecting the growing interest among students in engineering courses.
Data released by the department showed that 10,423 students have already completed payment of counselling fees, while 3,352 applicants have uploaded their certificates and required documents for verification.
The entire counselling and admission process is being conducted through an online portal to simplify applications and improve accessibility for students across the State.
Education officials expect the number of registrations to increase significantly in the coming days following the announcement of Class 12 board examination results.
Tamil Nadu continues to remain one of the leading States in engineering education, with thousands of students applying every year for admissions in various engineering disciplines through the centralised counselling process.
Officials have advised students to complete fee payments and document uploads well before the deadline to avoid last-minute technical issues during the verification process.
