Chennai, June 10:
Tamilaga Vazhvurimai Katchi president T Velmurugan on Tuesday urged the State government to disclose the reasons behind the recurring power cuts reported across Tamil Nadu and take immediate steps to address the issue.
In a statement, he said prolonged nighttime outages were affecting daily life in several parts of the State. Despite official claims that Tamil Nadu remains a power-surplus State, residents continue to face frequent and lengthy disruptions, he noted.
Velmurugan called for clarity on whether the outages were caused by power generation shortfalls, administrative lapses, maintenance work, or diversion of electricity to meet the needs of large corporate firms.
Highlighting the impact on the public, he said children were unable to sleep comfortably during hot nights, while elderly people were facing breathing difficulties due to the outages.
Alleging a lack of transparency, he said authorities had remained silent on the issue and reiterated his demand for a clear explanation along with corrective measures to ensure uninterrupted power supply.
