Chennai, May 11:

The newly elected Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly convened today for its first session following the recently concluded Assembly elections, marking the formal beginning of legislative proceedings under the new government led by C. Joseph Vijay.

The session, being held at the Assembly Hall in Fort St. George, will primarily witness the swearing-in of Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs).

The oath or affirmation will be administered by Pro-tem Speaker M.V. Karuppaiah, who was appointed to oversee the initial proceedings of the House.

All newly elected members have been instructed to be present with their election certificates to complete the formalities. The oath-taking ceremony is a mandatory constitutional process before legislators can participate in House proceedings.

XThe Assembly will reconvene on May 12 for the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, key positions that will preside over the functioning of the House.
