Chennai, May 16:

Southern Railway announces cancellations and partial route changes till May 31

Southern Railway has announced major changes to suburban train operations in the Chennai–Arakkonam section due to maintenance and technical works at the Arakkonam railway yard.

According to officials, special track maintenance will be carried out on May 17 and 18, with the impact of cancellations and diversions continuing until May 31.

Several EMU and MEMU services between Chennai, Arakkonam, and Kuppam have been fully cancelled during this period. Early morning trains departing from Chennai at 4:00 AM, 5:00 AM, and 6:25 AM towards Kuppam will not operate. Similarly, late-night services from Kuppam towards Arakkonam at 9:15 PM and 11:00 PM have also been cancelled.

In addition to full cancellations, multiple services from Moore Market Complex to Arakkonam will be partially curtailed. Trains departing at 10:30 AM, 11:00 AM, 5:15 PM, 5:45 PM, 6:05 PM, 6:40 PM, 7:45 PM, 8:20 PM, 9:10 PM, and 10:55 PM will run only up to Tiruvallangadu instead of Arakkonam.

Return services during the maintenance window will originate from Tiruvallangadu and operate towards Moore Market Complex and Chennai Beach stations.

Railway officials said the temporary changes are necessary to ensure safe and improved operations following maintenance work on the busy suburban corridor. Passengers have been advised to check updated timetables before travel.
