Chennai, May 16:

Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay strongly criticised the Union government over the recent increase in petrol and diesel prices, warning that the move would place an additional burden on the common people and have far-reaching economic consequences.

In a statement, Vijay described the nearly ₹3 per litre hike by public sector oil marketing companies as unjustifiable, especially at a time when global crude oil prices have remained volatile and oil firms continue to report substantial profits.

“The fuel price hike will severely affect middle-class families, daily wage earners, and economically weaker sections. It will further increase the financial pressure already being faced by the public,” he said.

The Chief Minister cautioned that the impact would extend beyond household budgets.

Vijay urged the Union government to reconsider and roll back the price hike in the larger interest of the people.
