Chennai, May 21:
Knight Frank India reported that Chennai recorded 0.7 million sq ft of large office space transactions (above 100,000 sq ft) in Q1 2026, accounting for 3.6% of the 19.5 million sq ft leased across eight major Indian cities.
Large office deals contributed 44% of the city’s total office leasing volume of 1.5 million sq ft during the quarter, indicating strong demand from corporates for expansive workspaces. The remaining transactions were evenly split between mid-sized offices (50,000–100,000 sq ft) and smaller spaces (below 50,000 sq ft), each accounting for 0.4 million sq ft or 28%.
Joseph Thilak, National Director at Knight Frank India, said the balanced demand across segments highlights Chennai’s diverse occupier base and its growing appeal among domestic and global firms seeking scalable, high-quality office environments.
