Chennai, May 26:
The Chennai Division of Southern Railway is set to enhance passenger safety by establishing round-the-clock emergency medical rooms with attached pharmacies at major railway stations, including Chennai Egmore Railway Station, Tambaram Railway Station, Katpadi Junction and Chengalpattu Junction.
The proposed facilities will offer 24×7 medical assistance to passengers, including first aid, emergency care, availability of trained medical personnel, ambulance support and access to essential medicines. The initiative aims to ensure quicker response during medical emergencies at some of the busiest railway hubs in the region.
To implement the project, Southern Railway has invited hospitals and healthcare agencies to participate through an e-bidding process. Officials said the move is part of broader efforts to strengthen on-ground safety infrastructure and improve passenger services.
Interested agencies can submit their bids through the Indian Railway E-Procurement System portal, with the deadline set for June 1, 2026.
