Chennai/Delhi, May 28:
The scheduled meeting between Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay and Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi was cancelled following which the Chief Minister’s returned to Chennai, cutting short his two-day official visit to the national capital.
Vijay had arrived in Delhi on a special flight for his first visit after assuming office as Chief Minister. He was accorded a warm reception upon arrival and later reached the Tamil Nadu House, where officials welcomed him with bouquets and a ceremonial guard of honour. After a brief rest, he began a series of high-level meetings in the evening.
At around 4.30 pm, Vijay met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed key issues concerning Tamil Nadu, including financial allocations and development requirements. Later, at about 6.30 pm, he held talks with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, strongly pressing for various financial demands and support for the state.
As per the original schedule, the Chief Minister was expected to meet Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi the following day, and had reportedly sought an appointment for the same. However, the meeting was called off at the last moment and Vijay departed for Chennai earlier than scheduled.
