The All India Trinamool Congress is facing signs of internal instability following allegations of factionalism, resignations and attempts by breakaway groups to assert separate identity within the party structure.
Reports indicate that a section of legislators has sought recognition as the “original party” in the West Bengal Assembly, while a group of Lok Sabha MPs has also reportedly moved a similar claim before the Speaker’s office. These developments come shortly after the party’s recent electoral setback in the state.
Senior leader Sukhendu Sekhar Roy has resigned from both the Rajya Sabha and the party’s primary membership, further adding to the political strain within the organisation.
Meanwhile, dissent within the party has been linked to differences over leadership and organisational control under party chief Mamata Banerjee and senior strategist Abhishek Banerjee, with internal functioning and decision-making reportedly under scrutiny.
Party insiders and observers note that the situation reflects growing unrest within the organisation, as competing factions attempt to consolidate influence amid a shifting political landscape in West Bengal.
