Karur:
After a gap of nearly two months, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday resumed its inquiry into the Karur campaign tragedy that claimed 41 lives and left over 110 people injured during Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s political rally at Velusamypuram on September 27, 2025.
As part of the renewed investigation, around 10 police personnel, including Vangal Inspector Syed Ali and other officers from Karur district, appeared before the agency for questioning. The probe, which had been temporarily halted following the announcement of the Assembly elections, recommenced at the PWD Circuit House in Karur, where the CBI team is currently stationed.
Sources said the officials were questioned extensively about the security arrangements at the rally venue, the sequence of events that led to the tragedy, and the rescue operations carried out in its aftermath. The interrogation reportedly lasted for over three hours. The CBI has been examining officials from multiple departments, along with leaders and functionaries associated with the event, as it continues to piece together the circumstances surrounding the incident.
