Chennai:

AMMK general secretary T. T. V. Dhinakaran on Wednesday dismissed speculations about a merger with the AIADMK, while reaffirming his party’s continued support to the Edappadi K. Palaniswami-led formation. He, however, did not completely rule out the possibility of a merger in the future.

Addressing reporters, Dhinakaran said the AMMK would remain part of the AIADMK-led alliance and stand by it during its current political challenges. He expressed confidence that those who had left the party would eventually realise their mistake and return.

Criticising parties backing the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam government led by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, Dhinakaran alleged that the regime came to power through unethical means, including bribery to secure MLAs’ support. He reiterated his loyalty to the NDA and dismissed claims that President’s Rule would have been imposed had Vijay not formed the government.

Recalling his expulsion from the AIADMK in 2017, Dhinakaran said he later founded the AMMK, which has been active in Tamil Nadu for nearly nine years. He also referred to past efforts to reunite AIADMK factions, including discussions involving senior leaders, but said those attempts did not materialise.

Reaffirming his stance, Dhinakaran said there was no immediate need for a merger, adding, “Let us wait and see,” while emphasising that AMMK remains firmly aligned with the AIADMK alliance.
