Chennai, June 12:
The Tamil Nadu Sand Lorry Owners’ Association has announced a 25% increase in lorry freight charges, effective June 15.
Addressing reporters in Chennai’s Chetpet area, association president Yuvaraj said the decision has been taken due to rising diesel prices, increasing toll charges, and overall operational costs, which have placed heavy financial strain on lorry operators.
He noted that toll fees are being revised twice a year and claimed that repeated appeals to the Union government have not resulted in any relief measures.
Yuvaraj said the fare hike has become unavoidable under the current conditions and urged the Tamil Nadu government to take up the issue with the Centre on behalf of the association.
