Washington, June 13:
US President Donald Trump has accused Iran of carrying out or attempting attacks on Indian ships operating near the Strait of Hormuz, calling the incident “totally unacceptable” and sharply criticising Tehran over the escalating maritime tensions.
According to reports, Trump made the claim in a social media post, alleging that Iran attempted a “rebuffed drone attack” on vessels carrying Indian crews as they were leaving the strategic shipping route. He also said Iran’s actions were linked to broader disagreements over a proposed US-Iran peace deal, which he claimed Tehran had misrepresented.
The comments come amid heightened tensions in the region, where multiple commercial vessels—including some with Indian sailors—have reportedly been attacked or disabled in recent days during ongoing military operations and a US-imposed naval blockade targeting Iranian-linked shipping.
India has expressed concern over the safety of its nationals at sea and has already raised diplomatic protests over repeated incidents involving Indian crew members in the Gulf region.
