Chennai, June 16:
A new step towards environmental protection has been initiated in Chennai, where an advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered machine has been introduced at the Albert TASMAC outlet in Egmore on a trial basis.
Under this initiative, customers can insert their empty liquor bottles directly into the automated machine. Equipped with advanced AI cameras, the system instantly scans the bottle’s QR code, checks its quality, and verifies whether it was sold through TASMAC.
If the bottle meets the criteria, users receive ₹10 in return. The amount can be collected either digitally via a QR-based system or in cash, making the process quick and user-friendly.
Officials say this AI-driven system helps eliminate human errors and significantly speeds up the bottle return process. It is seen as an upgrade to the existing scheme already implemented in some districts of Tamil Nadu, where empty bottles are collected in exchange for money.
If the pilot project in Egmore proves successful, the government is likely to expand this AI-based bottle return system to major TASMAC outlets across Tamil Nadu. The initiative is expected to boost recycling efforts and strengthen environmental conservation in the state.
