Chennai, June 16:

Congress leaders and Tamilnadu Ministers Rajesh Kumar and Viswanathan have issued a joint statement urging the DMK to introspect on its election performance instead of criticising alliance partners.

They said the DMK must identify the real reasons behind its electoral setbacks, including why minority communities and Scheduled Castes did not support the party in certain areas.

“Instead of blaming coalition partners and continuing harsh criticism, the DMK should understand the ground reality,” the statement said, adding that repeated missteps could weaken the party’s future prospects.

The leaders further cautioned that continued political misjudgments could alienate key voter groups and urged the DMK to function responsibly as an effective opposition, respecting the mandate given by the people.

They also warned that failure to correct course could have long-term political consequences, including a loss of trust among traditional support bases. According to them, self-reflection is essential for any major party to remain relevant in a changing political landscape.

The statement added that democratic accountability requires parties to accept responsibility for setbacks rather than shifting blame. They emphasised that constructive criticism within alliances should be seen as a strength, not a threat, in strengthening future electoral strategy.
