Chennai, June 17:
Former BJP leader and founder of the ‘We The Leaders’ initiative, Annamalai, has stated that his organisation is currently a people-centric movement and not a political outfit, even as he hinted at future political expansion.
Speaking during a live interaction on YouTube, he clarified that the initiative was created with a focus on public welfare and grassroots participation rather than immediate electoral politics.
Annamalai said that the movement began in Aravakkurichi and has since expanded its activities to various parts of Tamil Nadu, including Karur, where organisational work is currently underway. He described the initiative as one aimed at bringing change from the ground level, emphasising that meaningful transformation must start at the grassroots rather than through top-down political structures.
He further stressed that the organisation is inclusive and open to all communities, stating that he treats all religions equally. According to him, the objective of the movement is to unite people across social and cultural divisions under a common platform focused on development and civic engagement.
Addressing speculation about political recruitment, Annamalai clarified that neither he nor his associates have issued invitations for individuals to join the movement from political parties, including the BJP.
He reiterated that participation in “We The Leaders” is voluntary and driven by public interest rather than political pressure or organisational transfers.
He also highlighted the rapid growth of the initiative, claiming that around 18 lakh members have already joined. He thanked supporters who responded to his call and joined the movement, adding that the platform uses an OTP-based system for membership registration, which he described as a unique feature aimed at ensuring transparency and authenticity.
