Chennai, June 17:
DMK candidate S Inigo Irudayaraj has approached the Madras High Court challenging the election of Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay from the Tiruchy East Assembly constituency, seeking to have the result declared void.
In his petition, Irudayaraj pointed out that Vijay had contested and won from both Perambur and Tiruchy East constituencies, defeating him in Tiruchy East by a margin of 27,416 votes.
Though Vijay later resigned from the Tiruchy East seat, the petitioner argued that the election itself was affected by serious legal infirmities and alleged corrupt practices.
The plea further claimed that Vijay suppressed details of a pending income tax case in his nomination affidavit and had not submitted complete accounts of his election expenditure, raising questions about compliance with electoral norms.
Irudayaraj has also requested the court to declare him as the duly elected candidate from the constituency.
