Chennai, June 19:
On the second day of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly session, a key political message of unity emerged as Tourism Minister S. Rajesh Kumar declared that the Congress party would stand firmly with the state government in safeguarding farmers’ interests.
The Assembly took up a special government resolution opposing the Mekedatu dam project, with Chief Minister Vijay formally moving the motion.
The resolution reiterated Tamil Nadu’s long-standing objection to Karnataka’s proposed project across the Cauvery river, citing potential threats to the state’s water share and agricultural livelihood.
Speaking in support of the resolution, Rajesh Kumar emphasised that the Congress would extend full cooperation to the Chief Minister in every initiative aimed at protecting farmers.
He underlined that water security remains a critical issue for Tamil Nadu’s agrarian economy and political consensus is essential in such matters.
