Superstar Rajinikanth’s much-anticipated film, tentatively referred to as Thalaivar 173, has officially been titled “Dharman”, unveiled in a grand launch event held in Chennai. The event took place at the office of Raaj Kamal Films International and was attended by industry stalwarts including Kamal Haasan and director Ashwath Marimuthu, who will helm the project.
Speaking at the launch, Kamal Haasan fondly recalled his long-standing association with Rajinikanth, reflecting on their journey from humble beginnings in the industry to collaborating on this ambitious project. He expressed confidence in the team and assured full support to the director in delivering a memorable film.
Kamal also confirmed that actress Simran will play the female lead. Notably, she has previously shared screen space with both Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, and is set to take on a more prominent role in this film.
Music for Dharman will be composed by Anirudh Ravichander, whom Kamal described as an “international composer,” highlighting his growing global recognition.
Director Ashwath Marimuthu shared insights into the project, revealing that the film is a medical thriller centered around a character named Dr. Swag. He also mentioned that the movie will feature eight songs, with shooting set to begin with Rajinikanth’s introductory number.
Taking the stage, Rajinikanth addressed the audience in his signature style, blending humour with candour. He spoke about the journey of the project, revealing that earlier discussions with directors like K.S. Ravikumar and Sundar C did not materialize due to various reasons, before Ashwath came on board.
Welcoming Simran, Rajinikanth noted that unlike their previous collaboration Petta, where they had limited scenes together, Dharman will feature her throughout the film in a significant role.
The film also stars Raashii Khanna in a key role, while the stunt choreography will be handled by the popular Anbariv duo.
Sibi Chakravarthy was initially supposed to direct the film. For reasons unknown, he has been replaced.
With a powerful team, intriguing storyline, and the iconic presence of Rajinikanth, Dharman is already shaping up to be one of the most eagerly awaited films in Tamil cinema.
