Global streaming giant Netflix has officially released the trailer for its first-ever Telugu original comedy series, Super Subbu, marking a significant step in expanding its regional content portfolio. The series, created and directed by Mallik Ram, features Sundeep Kishan, Mithila Palkar, and Murali Sharma in key roles. The show is set to premiere on July 2 exclusively on the platform.
The story revolves around Subramanyam “Subbu” Chillukuri Rao, a well-meaning teacher who is posted to the fictional and chaotic village of Maakipur—an assignment most educators would avoid. Hoping to maintain his reputation with his family, Subbu arrives prepared, only to be tasked with teaching sex education to the villagers.
What follows is a series of humorous misunderstandings, social awkwardness, and unexpected friendships, as Subbu struggles to navigate a sensitive subject in an unpredictable environment.
Speaking about his role, Sundeep Kishan described Subbu as a character with good intentions who often finds himself in complicated situations. He highlighted how the series uses humour to address topics that are usually considered taboo, while still maintaining emotional depth. The actor added that working on Netflix’s first Telugu original made the project particularly special.
Actress Mithila Palkar noted that the show blends comedy with meaningful storytelling, focusing on relationships, acceptance, and human connection. She expressed excitement about being part of a project that combines entertainment with substance, and emphasized the vibrant and unique world created by the makers.
Veteran actor Murali Sharma, who plays Subbu’s father Kukateshwar Rao, said the series balances humour, family dynamics, and social themes effectively. He pointed out that the narrative encourages conversations around often-avoided subjects while remaining engaging and heartfelt.
Written by Mallik Ram, Ramesh Eligeti, and Shivani Dhobal, and produced by Rajiv Chilaka and Bharath Laxmipati under Chilaka Productions, the series also features a supporting cast including Get Up Srinu, Maanasa Choudhary, Jeevan, and Brahmanandam. With its mix of humour, relatable small-town chaos, and coming-of-age elements, Super Subbu promises to offer a fresh and engaging viewing experience.
