Chennai, June 25:

Leader of the Opposition and DMK Youth Wing secretary Udhayanidhi Stalin on Wednesday condemned the alleged attacks and intimidation faced by party cadres involved in organising outreach programmes targeting youngsters, and urged the police to take immediate action.

In a post on the social media platform X, Udhayanidhi alleged that party functionaries Anbananthan and Gani, who were actively involved in conducting interactions with youth as part of the DMK’s Gen Z outreach initiative, had come under attack. He claimed that Anbananthan, a resident of Krishnagiri district, was facing attempts by the police to arrest him.

The DMK leader further alleged that Gani, a Chennai-based functionary, was attacked by individuals he described as ā€œgoonsā€ linked to the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). He also expressed concern that, despite the alleged assault, the police had not registered a First Information Report (FIR) in the case.

Raising questions over the handling of the issue, Udhayanidhi urged the state government and the police department to ensure that those responsible for the alleged attack were identified and brought to justice without delay. He stressed that such incidents could have a chilling effect on political participation, particularly among youth engaged in democratic activities.

The allegations come amid heightened political tensions in Tamil Nadu, with parties increasingly trading charges over law and order and political intimidation. The ruling party has not yet officially responded to the claims.
