GCC removes 31 illegal hoardings from Metro pillars on GST Road

Chennai, June 25:
The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has removed 31 unauthorised advertisement hoardings installed on Chennai Metro Rail viaduct pillars along GST Road in Alandur, citing non-payment of licence fees for the 2026–27 financial year.
The enforcement drive was carried out by officials of the Alandur Zone under the direction of the South Zone Commissioner. According to GCC officials, the hoardings had been erected by a private firm without obtaining the required permission from the Corporation.
As part of the कार्रवाई, the civic body dismantled 31 hoardings that were fixed on 16 metro bridge pillars. Authorities stated that the advertisements were displayed in violation of civic regulations, as neither approval was secured nor the prescribed licence fee paid.
Reiterating its stance, the Greater Chennai Corporation warned that all advertisement boards within city limits must comply with regulations, including prior approval and fee payment. Officials added that strict action, including penalties and removal, would continue against violators as part of an ongoing crackdown on illegal hoardings across Chennai.
