Chennai, June 26:
In a significant development for the Chennai Metro Phase 2 expansion, Ircon International Limited has awarded a contract worth Rs 81.09 crore to Pee Pee Mandal Projects Pvt. Ltd. for the remaining track work on Corridor 4 of the project.
The contract, awarded on June 23, 2026, involves the supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of standard gauge track infrastructure between Lighthouse Station and Poonamallee Bypass Station. The project is scheduled to be completed within a period of 365 days.
As part of the scope, the contractor will execute balance track works across both underground and elevated sections of the corridor, along with all associated infrastructure requirements. The project falls under Corridor 4, also known as the Yellow Line, which is a crucial component of the Chennai Metro Phase 2 network.
The Phase 2 expansion aims to add 118.9 km of metro connectivity across three corridors in Chennai. Corridor 4 alone will span 26.1 km, including 16 km of underground stretch and 10.1 km of elevated track, covering a total of 28 stations.
Once completed, the Lighthouse to Poonamallee Bypass corridor is expected to significantly enhance connectivity across key residential, commercial, and employment hubs in the city, contributing to improved urban mobility and reduced traffic congestion.
