Chennai, June 30:
VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan on Monday said the recent resignations of MLAs were not a healthy development in politics and urged the public to examine the reasons behind such moves, emphasising that elected representatives carry the mandate of the people.
Speaking to reporters in Tiruchy, he said the issue should not be seen merely as an internal matter of the AIADMK. “MLAs are elected through the people’s mandate. Such developments in Tamil Nadu politics are not healthy. Everyone must analyse the background seriously, as it is our collective responsibility to uphold democracy,” he said.
Rejecting claims that the ruling TVK lacked trust in its alliance partners, Thirumavalavan said he would not respond to speculation. However, he reaffirmed that the VCK would continue to support the TVK government to complete its full term. He also chose not to comment on developments within the MDMK.
On the proposed disinvestment of NLC India Ltd shares, he urged the Centre to drop the move, warning that it could lead to the privatisation of public sector undertakings. He also appealed to the Tamil Nadu government to intervene and prevent the sale.
Thirumavalavan further said that ministers Aadhav Arjuna and N. Anand had met him and were engaging with leaders of alliance parties supporting the government. He added that a meeting of elected representatives from alliance parties would be convened soon, during which Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is expected to address participants and discuss alliance matters.
