Industries Minister S Keerthana on Tuesday said Tamil Nadu and the Republic of Peru would deepen ties in trade, manufacturing, clean energy and critical minerals sectors.
Speaking at the 205th Independence Day celebrations of the Republic of Peru held yesterday during which she held discussions with Peruvian Ambassador Javier Paulinich, the Minister said as India and Peru continue to strengthen their ties, Tamil Nadu remains committed to building enduring partnerships founded on trust, shared prosperity and innovation.
In a post on X today, she said “It was a privilege to join the celebrations marking the 205th Independence Day of the Republic of Peru. I had the opportunity to interact with His Excellency Ambassador Javier Paulinich, Honorary Consul Mr. R. Dinesh, members of the Peruvian community and leaders from industry. Our conversations reaffirmed the immense potential to deepen the partnership between Peru and Tamil Nadu, particularly in manufacturing, critical minerals, clean energy and trade.”

At the reception hosted to mark the occasion and business delegation from that country, India and Peru has outlined a roadmap to deepen economic engagement, with policymakers and industry leaders identifying trade, critical minerals, agriculture, manufacturing and digital technologies as the next pillars of bilateral cooperation amid ongoing negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
India and Peru’s bilateral trade has exceeded a record USD 10 billion, underlining the growing economic significance of the partnership and reinforcing the case for a comprehensive trade agreement.
Observing that Tamil Nadu and Peru were well positioned to build long-term industrial partnerships, Ms Keerthana said Tamil Nadu stands ready to work with Peru. and are looking for long-term partners,” citing vast opportunities spanning manufacturing, trade and cultural exchanges.
She also said products from Tamil Nadu, including Sivakasi’s fireworks, could find a larger market in Peru.
Peruvian Ambassador Javier Paulinich described Tamil Nadu as one of India’s leading industrial destinations and said Chennai had emerged as an important gateway for expanding Peru’s engagement with India. Inviting Indian companies to invest in Peru, he said cooperation in trade, education and institutional partnerships would strengthen bilateral ties.
