Chennai, July 1:
In a significant political development in Tamil Nadu, DMK Treasurer and Member of Parliament TR Baalu has withdrawn the defamation case filed against former BJP state president Annamalai.
The case dates back to 2023, when Annamalai, then serving as the Tamil Nadu BJP chief, released a series titled “DMK Files,” in which he made various allegations regarding the assets of several DMK leaders. Among them were claims related to TR Baalu’s properties.
Following these allegations, TR Baalu filed a defamation case against Annamalai in the Saidapet court in Chennai. During the course of the trial, Annamalai personally conducted a cross-examination of TR Baalu, drawing considerable attention.
When the case came up for hearing again today, Annamalai had earlier stated that he would once again cross-examine TR Baalu. However, in a surprising move, TR Baalu chose to withdraw the case.
Political observers believe that the decision may be influenced by the changing political landscape in Tamil Nadu. Notably, Annamalai has since stepped down from the BJP and launched a new outfit called “We The Leaders.”
The withdrawal of the case has sparked fresh discussions on its political implications and whether it signals a shift in the state’s evolving political dynamics.
