France forward Kylian Mbappe etched his name deeper into football history by becoming the first player to win the FIFA World Cup Golden Boot twice, after finishing as the top scorer at the 2026 tournament.
Mbappe scored an impressive 10 goals in eight matches, narrowly edging out Argentina’s Lionel Messi in a closely contested race for the award. The 27-year-old had previously won the Golden Boot at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with eight goals, making him the first player to claim the honour in back-to-back editions.
Meanwhile, newly crowned world champions Spain dominated the individual honours. Midfield general Rodri was awarded the Golden Ball as the tournament’s best player, capping off a stellar campaign for the Spanish side.
