Actor Jiiva has officially teamed up with director Ra Venkat, best known for the critically acclaimed Kida (2023), for his next film titled Thagappan. The makers unveiled the title along with the film’s first-look poster as shooting commenced in Madurai.
The film carries a strong Karuppu connection, with the first-look poster prominently featuring Karuppusamy against a striking red backdrop, symbolically linked to the deity. The team also reportedly visited a Karuppusamy temple before beginning production, adding a spiritual undertone to the project.
Alongside Jiiva, the film stars Rajisha Vijayan and Lakshmy Ramakrishnan in key roles, with additional cast members yet to be announced.
On the technical front, Thagappan features cinematography by M Sukumar, editing by Nagooran Ramachandran, and art direction by KB Nandhabalan.
The film is backed by Lark Studios, known for backing successful ventures like Garudan (2024) and Maaman (2025). Director Ra Venkat’s previous outing, Kida, which starred Kaali Venkat and late actor Poo Ramu, was well received for its emotional storytelling.
Jiiva was last seen in Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimaiyil, released during Pongal earlier this year. He also has Jolliya Iruntha Oruthan in the pipeline, which has completed production and is currently in post-production.
With a rooted theme and a culturally rich backdrop, Thagappan is shaping up to be an intriguing addition to Jiiva’s upcoming slate.
