Chennai, July 22:
Ahead of launching a contactless registration system for property transactions, the Tamil Nadu Registration Department will hold a stakeholder consultation on July 23 to explain the process and address concerns from key sectors.
The meeting, to be chaired by D Logesh Tamilselvan at Amma Maligai, will include a live demonstration of the “Presenceless Registration” system.
Officials said the digital, contactless system will be made mandatory from August 17 for the first sale of flats and plots. The department plans to gradually extend the facility to cover other categories of document registrations in phases.
The initiative is aimed at enhancing transparency, reducing physical interface, and improving ease of access for the public. Stakeholders including the Builders’ Association of India (BAI), CREDAI, real estate promoters, banks and financial institutions have been invited to participate and provide feedback for smoother implementation.
The consultation is expected to address operational challenges and build consensus before the system is rolled out statewide.
